THE NEW ARRANGEMENT.

The new arrangement between the Government and the Nippor Yusen Kasha, under which the steamship company is to receive fees for the carrying of mails, instead of a special subsidy, was carried into effect from April 3. This applied only to the European, American, and Australian lines of the company, and the old subsidy arrangement will be con tinued for other subsidized lines.

The total payment of mail fees for the three lines mentioned amounts to YI,450,000, of which 850,000 will be allotted to the European, rum, Y420,000 to the American, and Y18 000 to the Australian.

The first steamer to sail under the Maru" on the European run, sailing new arrangement was the "Kitano

from Yokohama on April 1: on the American run, the Tokushima | Maru" on April 1, où the Australian run, the "Nikko Maru, on April 8.
