The Cap Finisterre," one of the former German ships allotted to) Japan and still moored in Yokohama, is likely to be taken over by the Toyo Kisen Kaisha. She was built in Hamburg in 1911 and is capable of registering 14,503 toas gross, thus being the largest ship possessed by this country. She was intended for operation by the Nippon Yusen Kaisha which brought her here on behalf of the Government, but failing, a workable agreement between the authorities and the company, the latter declined to operate her, and she has been left moored in Yoko- hama since she arrived early last.) month

The expenses necessary for work ing the steamer are considerable; it is said that the cost of coal alone amounts to Y16,000 a day. On the other hand, in the present depressed condition of the shipping situation, it is hardly possible to obtain suficient cargo
passengers for such a large steamer, and thus it is hardly remunerative to operate her. For this reason the Nippon Yusen Kaisha has declined to take over the "Cap Finisterre." "But it is reported that the Toyo Kisen Kaisha is arrang- ing to buy her. As a matter of fact, Mr Asano, President of the company, personally inspected the steamer on Friday, and it is said that she will be shortly taken over by the company.-
