CHINESE FLOUR.
SCATHING DENUNCIATION OF ALARMIST RUMOURS.
EL
EXAGGERATED AND MALICIOUS..
THE CHINA MAIL.
THE BLUE FUNNEL LINE
LONDON, February 17. When the recent alarmist rumours regarding Chinese four came up in the House of Lords, Lord Crawford, on behalf of the Government, very scathingly denounced the exaggerated and malicious statements that the Government was forcing the millers to accept sof: Chinese flour which was poisonous. Subject to proper distribution of the different qualities the millers could boy any bulk of wheat they chose and the stock of foreign flour held by them on January 1 was the lowest since the armistice. Last year, when the Argentine forbade the exportation of breadstuffs the Govern went bought Chinese four requiring with it a guarantee that the four was made from pure wheat. Health Ministry investigations showed that in every case the ficur was geed and wholesome and made from sound wheat and that it was at present being consumed in large quantities throughout Europe.

SUGGESTED DISARMAMENT.
HOW JAPAN'S ATTITUDE IS INTERPRETED IN AMERICA.
WASHINGTON, February 18.
In the House of Representatives, Mr. Miller (Washington State) said that be interpreted the refusal of Japan to move in the direction of disarmament till her battleship and cruiser programme was completed to mean that Japan was preparing for war unless cool headed statesmen and diplomats in Japan purged the country of the demagogues and jingoes that Mr. Miller urged the now appeared to bave the public eye and ear. strengthening of the Pacific coast defences and declared a war between Japan and America impossible unless Japan desired it.

The House of Commons rejected the Labour amendment to the Address with regard to unemployment after the speech of Mr. Lloyd George who declared that Britain had never had a period of great unemployment with less distress, thanks to the Unemployment Act and the £40,000,000 the Government was spending this year to relieve ex-Service men. He appealed to Amoy and Keelung to labour to co-operate with the Government and abandon trade union Philippine Islands obstruction. He urged bankers to accept a share in the abnormal risks in Swator, Amoy and Fooobsur Shanghai and North China esta perstatie financing trade.
