The following replies appear in the
Cubelte:
1. The site came into the posses- sion of the Government on the Ist April, 1920, and after some discuss sion it was decided in July 'ʼn place the whole work of development in the hands of a private firm of architects. Sketch plans were submitted early in September and after amendment were Einally approved on the 3rd Decem- ber. Detailed plans and drawings are in course of preparation and a contract for the erection of the houses will be let shortly. There has been no avoid- able delay in the matter having regard | to the importance of developing this valuable site to the best advantage.
2. It will probably be decided to put up the land for auction in several fats. The question of the best method of sub-divicing the whole area is at present receiving consideration. At
a later stage the members of the Pub
lic Works Committee of this Council will be asked to give their opinion on the proposed laying out.
3. The Government is taking action:

TEA DANCE ON "ANCHISTS."
יי
MANY PROMINENT' GUESTS.
An occasion that was somewhat out of the ordinary in the way of entertainment was the tea dance given yesterday on board the Blue Funnel" Line steamer Anchises". when Alfred Melt and Company and Captain J. Inkster, the master of the Empress of Russia vessel, were at home to several
bundred guests.
The Anchises" is a fire large steamer with unusually commodious decks and bandice furnishings, and made an ideal setting for such function. She is on her first trip to the Far East, having passed through Hongkong several weeks ago on her way north, and now being bound homeward. Until this voyage she was on the run to Australia by way of the Cape. She is the frst of the new Far Eastern service to be operat ed by the Blue Funnel Line, with regular passenger steamers as dis- tinct from the cargo vessels, with accommodations for a few passen. gers, that hitherto have been on the run. New ships will be added to this service as soon as they are ready.

The guests at yesterday's tea dance were taken across 217 Laurètes. and the whole ship | being thrown open to them, practi- all took the opportunity cally of inspecting her comfortable accom- modations. She has two large decks, a promenade deck and a magnificent boat deck, open to the sky. There are no inside cabins, the rooms being so arranged that everyone has an outside port. A charming mursery, and a fascinating assortment of games, are provided for children. There are two lounges, and a comfort- able smoking room. The dining saloon is a model of its kind, the com- fort of the passengers being assured by the provision of movable chairs, in place of the old-fashioned atroci. ties that are screwed to the floor.
The guests all expressed them- selves as being well pleased with the ship and the generous hoe- pitality that was dispensed. That the travelling public also appreciates. the "Anchises” is shown by the fact that she was booked up on her out- ward journey, and every berth was taken in Shanghai for her sailing.
