VILNA DISPUTE STILL UKSETTLID.

SUGGESTED DISARMAMENT CONFERENCE.
BRITISH AND AMERICAN AGREEMENT NECESSARY.
WASHINGTON, February 2, Giving evidence before the House of Representatives naval committee, General Pershing approved the suggested disarmament conference but favoured a continuance of the United States navy and army programines until the five great powers had reached an agreement. He added that France was unable safely to reduce her army for she was standing on guard in Europe, while Britain occupied a similar position on the seas British and American agreement must form the basis of a permanent dis- armament policy, but France, Italy, and Japan raust subscribe to the agreement. DENNISTON PLAYERS.
"SHE WALKED IN HER SLEEP.
A
The Denniston Players last night repeated the clever farce.
"She Walked in Her Sleep." with which they opened their season. in Hong- kong, scoring another success. large audience," attracted by the en- thusiasm that the first production of the piece awakened, witnessed the performance and laughed the evening through. The story is full of action, with plenty of novel situations, being based chiefly on the sleep-walking proclivities of a charming young girl who will persist in walking along the ledge of an apartment house, sixteen ficors up, and entering other people's windows. It can readily be seën what excitement she might start in an epartment occupied by a bride and groom, especially as her somnambul- ism is accompanied by a tendency to cling to anyone she meets, and her attire is not the Sort that would be recommended Jof any excursions farther than a dressing table..
Miss Shirley, Huxley, as Daphine Arnold, was a very pretty and grace- ful somnambulist, and in every way filled the requirements of the part. -Miss Warda Howard was the shocked,. surprised, and tearful' bride to whom the sleep-walker brought such tribu- lations, and Miss Valentine Sidney, as Mrs. Serena Lennox, her mother, gave an admirable performance. Most entertaining of all, in her way, was Miss Florence Chapman, as Mamic, the "scrub-lady," who kept the house laughing happily. Mr. Leo Kennedy as Charles Prescott, the bridegroom, and Mr. W. Vaughan-Morgan as William Bruce, his friend and part- ner, gave, splendid presentations of two young men striving valiantly 'to disentangle themselves from a be wildering maze of domestic complica- tions. The rest of the company gave thoroughly satisfactory support.
