Three judges in the King's Bench Division were recently occupied con- sidering the question of microbes,
The Ryde magistrates had refused to convict a man for having sold milk said to be dirty and swarming, with bacteria, and held that it com plied with the Regulations. Against this decision there was an appeal."
Mr. Barrington Ward was referring to the bacteria in the milk when Mr. Justice Darling, said: "But one's whole self is swarming with bacteris. If you fall down in the street you get tuberculosis.”
The Lord Chief Justice: And then to cure you other bacteria are ini troduced, (Laughter).
I should be sorry to be told how many millions of bacteria I shall partake of when I take some refresh- ment when the Court adjourns,” ad- ded the Lord Chief Justice.
Mr. Justice Darling: Why, take an ordinary drop of water and ex- amine it under a microscope. It looks like a photo of the Zoo.
The Court dismissed the appeal. Another appeal was then heard against a decision by the same magistrates. A Food and Drugs inspector asked for a glass of hot zyk' in a Ventnor cafe, and the milk proved to be 25 per cent deficient in fat. The Ryde Justices had decided that he must accept what he gut, 'for better or WÖTSL.'
Mr Justice Darling: Then he' would have to accept hot brandy," (Laughter.)
