Losmay, December 4th. The gale in the British Isles was yester-- day at its maximum, reaching a velocity of 70 miles. It caused havoc on land and rea. There was a considerable loss of life. The lifeboat Ekoeya asiating a regsel in distress in Caroarco Bay lost five of its cryw, including the carswain. The crew of the ragel took to boats. Four were drowned.

Two tram cats were blown over in Hal fax, and a number of people were injured. Much damage and several casualties KTA reported from Manchester, Middlesbrough. Strabane, Blackpool and other places. Shipping from the Mersey was held up the whole day.

BOMBAT, December 5th, The longstanding conflict between the cotton trade and the Cotton Contracts Board on the question of the control of cotton business has been satisfactorily settled The Board states that it wishes Government control of cotton trading to cease at the end of October, 1991, and that a new sayɔciation bé formed by the trade so take over the control from the Board. A meeting of the cotton trade approved of the Board's proposals and resolved forth- with to open forward contract dealings in the 1920-1921 crop which had been stopped.
