Miss Tucker, who was cover. ed with grime and suffering excruciat- ing pain from rheumatism, was then too weak to stand. During the dread- ful days of her experience the woman,; who was attired in man's overalls was up to her waist in water. Rats swarm- ed over her, when she was overcome by liess and weariness, and tried to sleep. Whenever the ship rolled she was dashed from side to side of her prison, suffering, moreover, the agonies of sea-sickness. The only air which came to her was through a Jocker overhead in which potatoes had been stored.
Of food and drink she had as much es she could take, as it was passed down to her by a stoker, for whose sake she had hidden herself white; the ship was lying at Southampton.
