The theft of a large sum of money occurred on board the PMS. *Venezuela between 5 pm, on the 8th instapt and 11 am, on the 9th Ecstant, $50,000 belonging to six Chinese passengers being taken. The theft was not discovered till the | steamer had cleared from Yokobama.
Upon
the steamer arriving at Kobe on the afternoon of the 10th) instant the Water Police were 'coms musicated with. Detective made inquiries of the captain and the Chinese passengers, and a Chinese waiter, an acquaintance of the victims, was found to have landed when the steamer was about to leave Yokohama. His whereabouts are unknown.
