LOCAL POETRY.
WHERE'S THE CAT?
[The poet images the late Adver- sarian as the Cat, supposing him to be no longer hunting. 1.
Where's the Cat? There are Rats
about,
That run to and fro and are always
seen
With eyes glaring, they run in and
While the Car remains in posture
serene.
Chase the cunning creatures, we
plead!
They mischievously bore holes every-
where.
Even on the streets their tails we
tread,
And we see heads that peep here and
there!
Is the Cat tired, or is it scared, To chase the Rats that run up and
down;
And why with bare bright eyes
scared
At the Rats, while in pleasures
drown?
Where is the Cat, oh where is it? We daily search and yearn for it is
vain:
To look for our pet, we're no longer
fit,
And Hongkong can ne'er find the Cat
again.!
