MANCHESTER WEEKLY MARKET, REPORT.

Messrs. James F. Hulton & Co., Ltd Manchester, report on June 23. Cotton prices are again lower on the week's trading. This downward tendency, was continued at the outset through further favourable weather news from the cotton belt, but it is still evident that much nervousness prevails as to the crap, for late adverse weather reports immediately led to a distinctly ballish undertone. For the present however, the utter lack of trade support continues to be the primary influence on raw material values, but as a good crop for the season is so essential it is likely that it's future development will play a more important part in controlling prices. In the yarn and cloth sec- tions there is still an entire absence of any new features to repárt. The improved enquiry which has been evident, recently has not as yet resulted in business, and turn- over has again been on a very limited scale. Quotations for the better grades of American yarn are again practically unchangei bat coarse wefts are cheaper and Ecyp'ian yarns continue to weaken with the fall in futures. The irregularity" in cloth prices is still marked, makers who are running short of orders shewing a willingness to make concessions!! Overseas outlets and the home trade are all uniformly quiet and the effect of the heavy fall in silver appears to have been extremely detrimental, especial-- ly in the case of China. In spite of these unsatisfactory, influences there. is however still a strongly optimistic feeling prevalent, for the present state of affairs is attributed mairly to political and financial causes and not to the fact that any of the consuming outlets are well stock- ed. with goods. That being the case, it is evident that a renewal of buying must set in at no very distant date when the present distur bing factors have been more or less eliminated, and when it becomes apparent to buyers that values have reached a fairly stable level Should this prove to be appreciably lower than recent rates have been, it will certainly tend to a more healthy position all round and it is to be anticipated that a steadier and more- prolonged period of good trade will follow..

PRINCE'S POPULARITY.

ACHIEVED IN SPITE OF STAFF.

The Sunday Chronicle says that when in Canada a good deal of fric tion was caused by the action of the Prince's staff and it was said that he made himself popular in spite of them. The result was 'some very outspoken criticism at Buckingham Palace and York House when the party returned..

Reports to band from the Antipodes show that matters have not im proved there, and in Australia the Royal suite have been far from in- gratiating. Here again the Prince of Wales has shown himself of better mettle than those associated with him and is even more popular than he was in Canada.

It was the Australians themselves who insisted that the Prince' should' have an easy time for a week, and really see the country instead of at- tending perpetual receptions and re plying to addresses. The thoroughly democratic nature of Australia has been ill-understood by the Prince's 'entourage, but he has retrieved their
