THE PREMIER'S REVIEW.
HOPEFUL TURKEY WILL SIGN TREATY.
"POLES. RECKLESS AND FOOLISH."
LONDON, July 21.
In the House of Commons, on the motion for the adjournment, Mr. Lloyd George made a statement with regard to the Spa Conference.
He paid a high tribute to the Greek troops clearing up the situation in Asia Minor and expressed confidence that the Greeks would be equally successful in Thrace. He was very hopeful that Turkey would sign the Treaty because the Turks would recognise that it was the best means for enabling Turkey to preserve the dominions left ber by the Treaty and to start life on a surer and sounder basis than in the past.

Dealing with the question of coal, the Premier stated that of the difference between the export and inland price of German'coal five marks per tan would be paid in cash to Germany and the balance would be advanced to Germany for the purchase of food and clothing. He added that without doubt the population was gravely underfed. The figures of infantile mortality were appalling, while investigations bore out the unable to turn out their that the miners were quota of coal because they were underfed. Therefore an arrangement was made that more than half the cominercial value of the coal should be advanced to provide the necessary food and clothing.
