THE BITER BITTEN,

PICKPOCKET ROBS POLICEMAN,

A Chine e with an unenviable record as, a pickpocket, resumed operations almost immediately after bis second discharge from jail. His first job was to rob a man in China- town of a purse containing 20 cents. No sooner had the thief started to walk away, when he discovered that he was being followed by his victim The thief broke into a run, with the other in hot persuit. His attention engaged by his pursuer, the thief failed to notice a lakong in front of bim, into whose arms he ran.

This morning, when the thief was charged before Mr. N. L. Smith, at the Magistracy, no one was more surprised than he to learn that his simple-looking victim was a Chinese constable in plain clothes!

The Magistrate, after he had heard the defendant's record, passed sentence of three months hard Labour.
