At the Magistracy this morning. before Mr. N. L. Smith, two Chinese were charged with attempting to export $14.06 and $19 worth of subsidiary coins respectively. The first man said he was a stranger to the Colony. He brought the money from the country to make some purchases. He was arrested after leaving the steamer, and not whilst boarding it as the Police alleged. The other man made a similar excuse, saying he had come from the country to worship the tombs of his ancestors. They both pleaded ignorance of local regulations. Remarking that notices were posted on every wharf, and no one had any excuse for not knowing,f his Worship ordered the money in each case to be forfeited.
