It will be remembered that a report was made last year concerning the Nippon Yusen Kaisha's project to establish a marine insurance company; of its own with a view to utilising the amount of idle reserve money the company has. it was ex- pected at the time that the return of Baron Kondo, abe President, from Paris, would give a decisive form to the scheme. The latest developments are, however, that there is a strong apposition among many of the share: Bolders on the ground that the scheme was promoted by only a part of them. and that it is not so feasible as the promoters hoped. It appears that the sumbitious shareholders who promoted | the project, expect to earn a large pro- Bt through the sale of the shares of
•he company, which, they hope will be distributed among them proportion- etely, and on which a high premium can be charged in view of the high reputation of the mother company, i.e. the N.Y.K. But they have a strong. element of opposition to tackle before they can realise their object.in view. As already said, many of the share- holders hold the view, that the scheme is not feasible and oppose what they regard as the wild cat speculations ofį. fellow shareholders. Such being the case, the prospects of this compars- tively long pending scheme tre re- garded pessimistically, It is at any rate. interesting to watch and see which of the two. contending parties will prevail after all.
