ISLAND OF PARADISE.
MAN FRIDAY'S DELECTABLE HOME AMONG THE BIRDS.
A pretty romance of a desert island, known to very few people, is recalled by the departure of Mr. Wilfrid Frost. to the Malay Archipelago to find rare birds and beasts for the London Zoo, says the Evening Standard af Decem 'ber 13.
There lies, off Trinidad, a small Kreen wel of an island in the turquoise seas. called Lesser Tetago. It is the iden lue lagoon island of romance. Te few people who ever visit know it as "the Isle of the Birds of Paradise.""
They are surprised. to see that the only human being on the island is Man Friday without his Crusoe. He
· is an old negro man and he lives with| hundreds of rare Birds of Paradise, who futter their orange gold and emerald green feathers in the tall palm trees of this little Eden..
Everything that is a danger to these beautiful birds is banished from the Island, and there they live, build their nests, rear their young, Roarish and multiply exceedingly, as they might have done in the golden age.
FREE FROM DANGER. For this little romance of natural| history the world is indebted to Sir William Ingram, who just before the; war conceived the idea of preserving the most beautiful species of Birds of Paradise which were in danger of extinction.. He accordingly looked about for a desert island where they could live in absolutely wild state free from all danger. Lesser Tobagoan island 400 to 500 acres exactly answered the requirements.

Then he sought the services of Mr. Wilfrid Frost, well known to alt collectors and naturalists, with the result that Mr. Frost departed to the tropics with orders to sзre as many Birds of Paradise as he could. He was lucky and cunning in his hunting, with the result that about 40 birds were set free upon the island and placed in charge of an old negro.
The latest reports state that the Island of Paradise is dourishing, and that the population is steadily upon the increase.
