THE MARSEILLES STRIKE.
PARIS, Sept. 6,
President Poincare left Paris on Friday for Pointe-de-grave, 50 miles north west of Bordeaux, and laid on Saturday the foundation stone of a monument to United States interven- tien in the war. It was a most solemn ceremony. The presidents of the Senate and Chamber, several ministers, the American ambassador, and numerous members of the American colony in Paris were pre- sent.
Friday morning's debate is the Chamber of Deputies was on a Bill for dividing the more populous de partments of France iota electoral sections. Or constituencies. An amendment by Abdle Lemire provid ing that no department should be divided was adopted by 266 votes to 157. This vote, however, does not dispose of the electoral law. The debate was adjourned.
The Minister of Finance in the Chamber of Deputies said France had obtained priority for restitutions In kind after 1921. Germany would. į have to pay France 209 miliards. A more conciliatory attitude is notice able in the dockers' strike at Mar- seilles. The employers and strikers have consented to meet again on equal grounds and endeavour to settle the dispute.
