THE BOXING ENTENTE.
There was a big Anglo-French programme at the Holborn Stadium, London, on April 10, three contests of considerable interest being set down for decision.
#
Eugene Criqui, the French bantam- weight champion, was matched over 20 rounds with. Tommy Noble, the bantamweight champion of Great Britain; Raymond Virtet with Private Bob Marriott; and George Papin, the French light-weight champion, with Ernie Rice, of Hounslow, each over The purses offered 15 rounds. amounted in all to £1,000 divided Into sums of £500, £850, and £150.
Proceedings opened with the meet- ing of Papin and Rice. This proved quite a good fight. Rice, who was obviously playing, fer a knock-out, misjudged his distance two or three times, but when he did land there was no lack of sting in his punches. All the same the balance of the hit- ting was against him, and Papin got the verdict on points.
Noble and Criqui took the ring next, and another fine contest ensued, Nobla eventually winning in the 19th
round..
Virtet was disqualined in the third round of his match with Marriott for hitting with the elbow.
