Every year the ruling family of Japan gives an imperial poetry party, at which little poems contributed by the people are read, or at least those of the Imperial Family, and the prize winners. It would take too long to read 30.000 poems, which was about the number submitted for the party on Jan. 15. It teck place in the Palace T. ML the Emperor ard Empress, atterded by the Household Minister, Lord Chamberlain, Chier Steward of NORE, P. and D.; from Yokohama the Express's Household; Court ladies, chamberlains and other Court ofhcials, were present. Several Princes and Frincesses of the Blood, members of the Imperial Poetry Board digni- taries were in attendance.

The poem composed by the Housé hold Mister on the srbject "Snow ca Sunny Noting" was read before Their Majesties, followed by the poems compted by the members of the Poetry beats and the Irinces and Princesses of the Bleed, each poem being rect twice.

Next the fm ecrposed by the Empress was lead and then that of the Emperor, each being repeated five times by the members of the poetry head in a cherus.

The seven test poems selected from among those composed by altogether 27,822 Japanese subjects throughout the errie and abroad were also read before heir Majesties. The poems compered by Their Majesties run as folicus:

Mr. Hiroatsu Tachibana, whose fcem was adjudged the best, is a ritualist in the Imperial palace. He is the second son of the former feudal ford of Yanagawa cian and younger Ne brother of Count Tachibana.

was educated in the literary course of the Waseda University and after his graduation he taught at a middle school and a girls' high school for some years before he entered the Imperial household.

Mr. Sohei Sawada, is the father of Mr. Sojuro Sawada, head priest of the well known Komikado Jinja, Chiba prefecture, and a profound scholar in Japanese classics. Ore of the two ladies Miss Masuyo Takaya. ma, is a chemist in a hospital in Beapu, Kyushu.

The insured letter and insured parcel. services between Egypt (or in transit through Egypt) and Cyprus are tempor arily suspended..

Uninsured parcels for the United Kingdom will in future be forwarded from. Hongkong in bags and the Public are therefore advised to pack spel parcels very carefully.

Until further notice parcels, for ciril addresses in the provinces of Unine, Vicenza, Trevise Padus, Venice and Bel lune in Italy will not be accepted for | transmission unless posted under the British War Office Permit.

The Parcel Post Services to British East Africa and Egypt (except for mombers of the Expeditionary Forces). and to Abyssinia, Bagdad, Frithres, French Somali Coast, Italian Somaliland, Portuguese East Africs, Zanzibar and Rassis have been suspended.
