He was also a charming *friend, and tba " China Mail" mit, who enjoyed his friendship many years ago keartily endorses the Musical Times * statement that "in an exceptional degree he had a genius for friendship." In many ways be might have prompted some of the thoughts in Emerson's famous say on the uses of great men.
