O

THE ARMISTICE.

CELEBRATION IN SOUTHERN. SIAN,

In Singora, the capital of Southern Sism, the conclusion of the Armistice wardaly celebrated on the 2od instant in accordance with the Royal commands. The Government offices, and privata houses were gaily decorated with palat branches and garlands of green foliage and, at night, illuminated by thousands of bit lights and Chiasso lanterns, the frew Siamese flag being everywhere in evidence....

A contingent of the regular army came down from the barracks at Nakon and these, together with the local Wild Tiger corps of scouts, were" ceremon- iously paraded in the faraneen st Government Offices and reviewed by HR Hthe Vicaroy, around whom where grouped all the officials in full- gala dress the local European officials: being in evening dress with these WAS one solitary non official European of a Scacdinavian country, no invitations having been sent to non-officials of British nationality

Much of the interest in this parada was spoiled by a heavy downpour of raid, as we are now in the thross of the NE Monsoon. Many a gorgeous uni form was thereby sailed. The regulare looked quite interesting in an original uniform white tunics, black belts, dark baggy trousers cat in baggy Russian style with Russian style high boots, Napoleon black hats with a white Bavarian hussar erect plume resembling bristles

After the price bad read the King's proclamation, cheers were given, refresh- ments partaken of and the company dispersed.

In the early afternoon the bullring was well patronized by the general public, while later, on the plain facing the railway station, popular sporta were indulged in, such as pony races, motor bicycle races, rikisha races, etc.".

The most interesting function of all was the procession round the town in the evening. This was an agreeable surprise to those who know Singors wall, and certainly more so to those who have only a casual knowledgo of the place. There are several thousand people accompanying this Fantastically decorated cars of many varieties, animals made of paper, sh, fowl and reptile, arts and craft, Chinese guilds with their auners and to toms, Siamese bands, etc. In this procession-the Forest Department had a very appropriate huge log of wood made of coloured paper, lit inside by nazerous lights and drawn on a log trolley and, last but not least, a very arti tid model..ia grasses of the wireless telegraph station and tower, made by the wireless operators, "deserves special mention. This procession took fity miantes to pass a given spot.

Singors is to ba congratulated on aa. excellent show, which it is said' was spontaneous..

by General Sir Herbert Powell Brit MACARONI, PASTE STARS, EGG NOODLES,

Red Cross Commissioner, who has recently

passed through Japan on his way to

Siberia -

I would args very strongly indeed that notwithstanding the signing of the artist las, the several Depots of Queen Mary' Needlework Guild in Japan and Cains should continue unbated the provision of warm clothing and ho pital stores general-

Fesco will no doubt reset in the West; but there will be no peace yer awhile in Bas'a proper or in Western Biberis, naz on the troops bo withdrawn while th zigours of a Busian and Siberian. winter. increase the hardships to troops and P palation."

Correquently it is quite evident that there should be no sisekoning of work in the Dapo, more especially so in those centred ls Japso, owing to their proximity to Siberia

·On my arrival in America I went to Washington for the express purpose of disca sing the Siberian sustion with the American Red Cross Authorities, sad I found them very idsistent on the urgency of the work there, I was also much Im pressed with the magnitude of their work in that country

I also found the Canadian Red Cross Imbued with the seme spirit and I inspected their Depots in Toront Winnipeg, Victoria
