A meeting of the Sanitary Board wa fald yesterday, Mr. Adam Gibeon, Hend of the Sanitary Department, presided and there were prosent the Hon. Mr. TL Perkins (Director of Public Works), Dr. Ozoric, Marra F. BL Bowley, C. G. Alabaster, O. B. E, and Can Kai Ming, Mr Hickling, Medical Offer of Health, and Mr. £ HaPherson, Sekretary,
OVERCROWDING.
M. FEL BOWLEY, pursuant to motico; saked the following questions :- **i. Are the provisions of the Public Health and Buildings Ordinance with reference to overcrowding being enforced by the Sanitary Department? If not, on whose instructions has the enforcement of such provisions been suspended When were such instructions given What reneris (if any) were pat forward for meli instractions?
f. Will the Head of the Sanitary Department have the following returns prepared and submitted to the Board:on
(a) A return of the unoccupied floors in Baeb Health District? (b) A return of the houses in ench Health District in respect of which modifications of Section 153 (1) with reference to external air are now in force, giving the data and period of each modification and showing whether such modifications are revocable or not !-
(c). A similar return of the houses in cadh Health District in -respect of which modifications
of Section 154 with regard to cubicles are now in force?
(d) A similar return of the housen
in each Health District in to spect of which meċificationa of') Section 1 with regard to backyards gre now in force? (e) A similar return of the houses in each Health District in re apeet of which modifications of Section 188 with reference to the height if buildings are now in fores?
i. Kave the District Inspectors in- stractions to report all illegal cubicles and ercklofts in their dia. tricts? What steps are taken with regard in with cubicles and cocklofts?
iv. What is the present routine for house to house cleansing? Is it possible to expect it with a view to the prevention of epidemic | disease during the approaching winter!
Does the Head of Sanitary Dev partment consider that the Staff of the Department should be increased in order to enable the Department to carry out its duties efficiently?
If so, what increase does hel con- sider advimble?"
