September 11 16h. 45m. Orders given to display Local Signal No. 1 (A typhoon exists which may possibly cause gule as Hongkong within 24 hours). September 12, 11h 10m.. - Warbing to Hongkong, Coast Forts and Mabila :
New Local anel Non-Local Storm. September 11, 16h. 30m. — Warning Signal Codes were introduced atto Hongkong. Coast Ports and Manila: Hongkong on 1st July, 1917, in place-Typhoon in Lat. 19° N. Long, 190" E of the old Local Code, and the China moving W.N.W. at 13 to 20 mph. Coast Code.
The principal change in the Local Code is that the new signals will show the direction from which the gale is expected, whereas the off signals showed the position of the typhoon-Typhoon in Lab. 20° N. Long, 114* ***, The latter will be indicated," as hereto moving N.W. at 8 to 12 mph. fore, by the Non-Local Signals. The now Locul Code is given below:-

Signal No. 1 is intended as a warning Hongkong to Stand By" and watch for the next signal. When it is hoisted after a black signal has been displayed it will mean that, on account of a change in the track Hoihow of the typhoon, or for some other reason, Phuliez .. a gale is no longer expected from the Tourane.... direction indicated by the las signal, C.
