What doubt there was as to the identity: of the contractor was dissolved when Sir John Jackson, on behalf of his firm, Sir 3. Jackson, Limited, defended hiu, setion, and declared that though the commission paid was £130,000 on an expenditure of nearly £4,000,000, this was only about a
fourth of the usual contractor's charges.
The Blue Book containing the avidasco, on which the Committee founded their. report has since been issued, and we give below soma of the principal passages from it with reference to the hutting coa tracte. It may be added that a few days after the report kas published Mr. Forster, on behalf of the War Office, apnounced that Sir John Jackson, Ltd., { pane had consented to a reduction of their commission from 5 to 4 per cent.
