"What would a jury say to all this ovidence ?.counsel asked. Ho submit- ted they would come to the conclusions that the fugitivo was a rebel. He had a price upon his heat-sufficient to cause under oficials or others. cupidity in That pre had been upon his head for over a year It was $10,000 and the price was upon his head to execute him Ha a rebel. The Canton Government sall so frankly, the fugitive,, was a thorn in their side and they said he would' con- tinue to be until he was put to death. Was it like a Government to give a man an "opportunity of self-glorification by calling him a rebel in arms and placing a price upon his head when, in fact, he was a common robber, a garderer, a man who shot cooks?

Counsel observed that was not like the way of the Chinesa Government.
