'GERMANY BLEEDING WHITE"

AMERICAN COMMENT ON PEACE TALK.

New York, Oct. 20.

The Tribune warns the American public against a prematura Ger- man pence-talk which is sure to follow any local success in the Balkans. It says that Germany is bleeding white and this process is continuing remorselessly. Germany is now approaching the time to make a great bil for victory, not on the battlefield, but by peace negotiations through neutrals. The newspaper points out that there is no talk of peace in London, Paris or Petrograd.

GERMANY'S SHORTAGE OF COPPER.

TRAMLINES BEING BROKEN UP.

A message from Copenhagen says the Kiel Municipality has started breaking up the tramlines in the loss paying parts of the town in order to give the copper cable to the military for military purposes. It' is expected that similar action will be taken in other German cities..

The newspaper Idea Nazionale gives fresh details of the great Italian offensive. The artillory scaled heights nine thousand feet. The Italian's capture of mountain suminils in Trentino, among avalanches. qf snow and in an icy wind," appeared miraculous. Enormous booty waa" captured there. The battle of Isonzo has assumed a terrible majestic appearance between Tolining and the sea. The noise of the gura was heard at Trieste. Two Austrian regiments strongly entrenched north of Tolmino were annihilated. "Bofore Gorizia, the magnitude of the battle has surpassed the imagination of the Austrians who reckoned that their heavy artillery was superior. When the attack began all their guns were brought up including some twelve and sixteen-half inch, but they proved unavailing against the Italians. Attackers with grenades caused huge mountains of fires, forcing the Austrians to withdraw. The Austrians at other points sot their trenches afire with petrol prior to abandonment. The Austrian losses were enormous.

· DISASTROUS SCHOOL TIRE IN AMERICA.

Losos, Oct. 19.

At Peabody, Massachussets, nineteen boys and girls were burned or crusbed to death and nineteen injured in a

school fire, seven hundred children pantoked. There were no fire sp pliances.
