GERMAN CRUISER AND OTHER WARSHIPS DAMAGED.
LONDOS, Aug 14, 5.35 pm.
It is unofficially reported in Petrograd that a naval battle took place at Oesel on the 12th inst, in which a large "German cruiser was destroyed and several other warships severaly damaged.
It is surmised that the enemy's purpose was to bottle up the Russina Fleet in the Gulfs of Finland and Bothnia.

A telegram from Washington states that the American reply to the. Austrian Note, which has been despatchel to Vianen, says that an embargo placed on the expert of munitions would be inconsistent with neutrality.

FRENCH SUBMARINE DESTROYS AN AUSTRIAN MINEFIELD.
Losbox, August 15,
A message from Toulon tells of a daring frat by a French submarine which has been mentioned in Army Orders.
The submarine encountered in Austriau minefield in the Adriatic and destroyed several floating mines It continued through the minefiell, the crew showing the graatest bravery in diving and cutting the cables of one-hundred nines, which were destroyed.
As a proof of the exploit the submarine towed two of the mines to an Italian port, where the fact was noted. The submarine then put to) sea and destroyed the mines.

The Balkans are engrossing interest, as it is neved that the Germans are contemplating reinforcing their diplomatic efforts by the invasion of Serbia, hoping thus to come to the aid of the Turks before the Allies can reach Constantinople. This prospect has not dismayed the Serbians. The Trerier, M. Ristich, in an interview, said that the county is now so well organised that its resistance would astonish the world. Moreover, he was convince that invasion would immediately
use all the Balkan States to help the Entente.
Fresh difficulties have arisen between the Austro-Germans and
Balgarians in connection with the payout of the first part of the The Opposition and Socialists at Sefin (Bulgaria) insist on the Tre German loan, as the Austro-Gennan bankers are unable to provide gold and are offering paper.

An Amsterdam telegram states that a Turkish communique, refers to the fighting of the past three days and claims that they captured eight Maxim guns and some ammunition near Aribaran; alan hitting a warship off Aribarnu and capturing 100 yards of trenches near Seddülbahr during a story.
