DARING FEA OF ITALIAN ALPINISTS.
LONDON, Aug. 9, 4.25 a.m.
A telegram froin Rome states that both Italians and Austrians are fertile in expedients in the warfare of surprise attacks.
A crniminique records a daring feat of the Alpinists in the Tonale district. Climbing right along the difficult ridge or rocks towering above Val del Monte they surprised at dawn on Saturday une Austrians en- #trenched to the rear of Ercavallo Peak, capturing many bombs and On the same day other material hasly abandoned in the trenches. at other enemy force entrenched to the north-east of Ercavallo were driven from their positions by fire from mountain guns hoisted, at a height of 10,000 feet to Ercavallo rocks.
The Italians in Cadere, after several days artillery preparation, successfully advanced along Sexten Valley and, driving back the enemy,
cached" a front extending from Martenero to Burtestal.
The enemy on the Carso are endeavouring their utmost to impede the Italian approach works, und are constantly delivering attacks and even attempting to place movable wire, entanglements in front of the Italian lines.
