IMPORTANT FRENCH SUCCESSES.

LONDON, June 8, 5.40 p.m.

Reuter telegraphs from Paris that important French successes are recorded in a communique. There was a violent infantry battle on the Lorette plateau. The Germans replied to a French night attack with three fierce counter-attacks, but the French maintained every position. They made progress at Souchoz, and after most violent fighting took another group of houses in The Labyrinth. At Hebutere the Germans were four times repulsed in attempts to capture lost ground, and the French made an important extension of their gains.

The H.K.V.R. will relieve the H.K.V.O. on Saturday, June the 12th, at Gun Club Hill and. Vol nteer Headquarters.

Gun Club Hill Guard will consist of 3 N.0.0 and 24 men of Sections 2, 3 and 4 of "C" Co. under Lieut., Blason and will mount nightly throughout the week at Gun Club Hill from and including Baturday, June the 12th, to Friday, June the 17th mi 10 pm. Detention Camp Guard and the Gais Clab Hill Guard will travel from Kowloon to Hongkong by the firæn available ferry each morning. The tar Ferry Co. have kindly consented to any these gurds free, but only on condition boat they travel altoge= ther, under command of an Officer.
