THE SWISS SWINDLING CHARGE.
"AN APPLICATION FOR " DISCHARGE.
"Tha an extradition provisional warrant, issued by H. E. the Governor. for the extin dition to Switzerland of William Alexande Beot, oh a change of swindling Fr. 10,000, Mt. Lewis (Mesare Johnston, Stokes and Master) on Saturday made an appli cation for the man's unconditiona discharge. If his. Worship referred 'to the treaty, said Mr. Fawis, he would And that no such offence as swindling was mentioned. It was not an extraditable offence made hetween Great Britain and other Powers. Mr. Lewis therefore, al mitted that the Magistrate had no power to detain the man.
The Crown Solicitor (Mr. P. Hodgson) asked if there was any information.
Mr. Lewis said he had before asked fur information in other cases in that Court,

The Crown Solicitor said he had no ubjection to Mr. Lewis seeing the informa rior far he had-seen nothing and..keem. ruching of the case. He did not know that it. Lewie was going to take that hne. He thought it ans to be an application for bail.
Replying to Mr. Lewis, the Crown Solicitor said swindling was a very wida turm and included fraud. The charge was wwindling Fes, 10,000 and the police found on the an 18,000 marks and 1,000 Swiss fanca Ho Baked for substantial bail in the sum of 18,000 marks, the balance of the money found on the man, including sovereigna, ti be handed back to him.
Mr. Lewis agreed, and prisoner was eranded until late in the morning.

Mr. Hodgson said the present watrant did not disclose an extradition case and be couhi not oppose the application. He took it that there was another warrant contain- ing-information awarn to by the German Cogsul.
