AMAZING ESCAPE OF AN EXPRESS.
Race to Arold Disaster.
A disaster which would certainly have had serious results was averted in an extraordinary Thunder on the North. Eastern Railway on Saturday evening. Nov. 8.
The train which would have been in- volved had a smash occurred was "the ding-car express which leaves Edin- burgh at 2.20 p.m. and roschee King's- Grou a 10.45.
This train, writes a member of The Daily Chronidas staff who joined the express at Darlington was, while travel- ling at a considerable speed, held up sud- donly a short distance" beyond Northal ferton. The large number of passengers wavelling in a fairly heavy train did not uspect plat-anything we wrong, but when dan stoppage became a ledigthy opo -it lasted for an hour-several passen gers made inquiries as to the cause of the delay,
It was then stated that the express had narrowly escaped running into a light engine and two carriages running on the same fire and in the same direction, and that a collision was only averted by the prompt putting up of the esprosti
