The Japanoss teamrer Hitachi Mare, which put la Bingapore, on Monday morning, the 18th Inst., brought with bar
the captain and crew of the Mataura Staru, the new Mitsui Dishi Goshi Kaishi ressol, which was found stranded on the north reef of the Paracal group of Islands in the China Son by the prevailing typhoon.
The atranded vessel, which is of 1,043 tons and was to go on the Hongkong-Japan runt, was on har maiden voyags from London to Hongkong. She mind a valuablo goneml cargo for the Nippan Ye Kaish and was commanded by Captain Keith, who had eight Earopean- ofices and forty Asistio erow.
Sho wa only two days out from her desination and had been on the reel for a consider. able time before her distress gignals wero obarred by the Hicchi Mare which was on the outward run from Yokohama Capt. Yamawaki, of the Witachi Aktru, was very prompt in getting the boats out and no lives have been lost. The reef on which the unfortunate vestel lies in well-known ass very dangerous, spot, and it is only within the last relve months, that a German stoomer was completely wrocked there and was not able to be salved.
The inquiry which will be held in due couree will doubtless furnish all details of the disaster. In the meantime it must be agrost consolation to bar owners to know that, providing there is no great disturb ance of the waters surrounding the Paracet Yalands in the China Sea, there is good reason to hope that the rossel and her cargo fileablo machinery will be recovered lith the worse for the mishap.
