The building of mammoth now liners year after year for, the conveyance of thousands upon thousands of emigrants to Canada and the carrying of millions of produce from her shores is a reliable in. dication that the great Dominion is forging steadily ahead on the road of progress One of the most astonishing facta in this respect is Canada's power of absorbing the now-comers. The thousands who arrive week after week by the grost liners during the summer months melt away like mist before the sun, and become so quickly and completely incorporated into the various districte over which they are wide; Jy senttered that it is hard to believe that a great emigration movement is going forward. During the last nine months of 1910 the total number of emigrants, ar- riving in Canada exceeded 258,000 while in the corresponding period of 1911 the total had reached 292,000, and in 1912, 534,000. As for 1913, there is every indication that the British contingent will best all records. One of the most promising signs is the building of two magnificent 13,000- ton steamships for the Canard service to
Canada. Although this sorvica was a
inengurated in 1911, three fine stenmera are already running, and the popularity of the service has fully warranted the lying down of theso now vessels. Each will carry a complement of 520 second-cabin sod 1,020 third-class passengem. There will be no first-class passengers.
