At the Magistracy before Mr. fazeland this morning twc Chinese wero charged with being in unlawful possession of a number of young pine trees cut from a Government plantation. Defendants said i that they were given tickets to cut the trees by another Chiness, who was recently sentenced to six month's hard labour for selling falso permissions to cut trees on Goverment plantations. The convicted man, however was brought down from prison and he denied having given tho defendants the tickets. One of the defendants was discharged, and the other |
i was sentenced to two imprisonment and four hour' stocks.
