The cutstanding tea. tre of this list is the very large propor tion of ex-scholars who enter upon educa- tional and legal careers. Of the former

there are 123 and of the latter 84. Naxt

in order numerically are those who have entered the Civil, Diploziatie, or Consular Services in various parts of the Empire, in the United States, and in Germany, of whom, grouped together, there are 32. The statistics given illustrate the wide scope of the Rhodes bequest. Altogether

180 scholars were in residone during the academic year, while six had temporary leave of absence. Among these 188 scho tars were representatives of all the Pro. vinces or States of the Dominions, ofs several smaller colonies, ef every State in the American Union, and of different sections of the Gorman Empire. They are distributed protty equally among all the colleges. Whatever else the Rhodes Scholarships may accomplish, they must ovidently lead to a lively intershange of thought and experience in the University.
