Appeal of Ex-Gunner Parrott Dismissed.
George Charles Parrott, ex-senior gun- of H.M.S. Agamemnon, appealed recently in the Court of Criminal Appeal, consist ing of Justices Phillimore, Pickford, and Coleridge, against bis conviction for breach of the Official Secrets Act and santened of four years' penal servitude. The grounds of appeal were:--
That there was no evidence of any communication of information.
That the judge misdirected the jury. That the prosecution was commenced before the consent of the Attorney- General.
Counsel for the appellant, detailing the story of the prisoner's movemente, inc tioned his meeting a lady at a London music-ball in May, 1912: her invitation to meet him at Ostend if ho wrote to a Berlin address; his journey to Dover and passago to Ostend while shadowed by detectives; bis meeting, not a lady but amas, with whom he conversed, in "a socluded corner"; and his rotura the same night.
Subsequently at the investigation he explained that he did not know he w doing wrong by going abroad to see young lady. He had the disgrace of dis missal from the service and the loss of his pay and pension of £95.
After this he was traced to Hamburg and on another occasion to Rotterdam vis Flushing. Counsel admitted that appel. Cold and Hot Water throughontant was unable to account for a bank note of £20 found to have come fromT Germany.
