STORY OF A HAT.

A Slippery Customer..

522

Last night a man soothed a falt hat from a man's head us he was riding in

a ricksha in Queen's Road. A policeman chased him and caught him with the bat in his bund. The constable arrested him, but on the way to the station, the pri

ter slipped his erat and bolted, leaving the astonished policeman in possession et the jacket and the steden hat. A re- port was made by the castable at the police station, and other police went in search of the missing bat thief. He wou found neat the Ko Shing theatre, and there he admitted that the jacket be longed to him. Of the bat, however, he told a story. He said that a man who was running away"threw it at him. This story justified his re-arrest, and for the quiawful possession of the hat he was fined $10 or a month in prison Mr. Hazeland to-day. Up to the present the polies have been unable to find the owner at the hat.
