As to the matter of the Thirty-third Degree in Freemasonry, I challenge Sir Edwin, or anyone else, to falsify my description in any particular; and wore I but one-thousandth part as rich as he, I would unhesitatingly back my state- monte with a substantial sum to be paid ever to the Masonio charities, if found in

error.

English Freemasonry is only one branched the Great Brotherhood-truly catholic in its inclusion of ali races and ereeds, acknowledging a Supreme Crestor DUR all things. There are distinguished brethren holding the Thirty-third Degree in every civilised, country in the world. This fact disproves Sir Edwin's erroneous statement regarding the matter of the Q and 39.

THE DOCTRINE OF CHANAK. Sir-The explanation of the liftenly raised by Bar Ond that it is noné unlikely that two men so great us Shakess pure and Bacon could be contempor aries lies in the reccut Revival of Lat- Pers. In all countries it was par excvi. lence the period of great men.

The doctrine of chance has been al seady shown to paint emphatically to separate authorship. If. before Shakes- peare appeared. the chances against man being born with his marvellens powers were Jnormous, the chances against one being born with the added

of Bacon powers

were inconceivably greater.I am, Sir, geurs, etc..

THE METHOD OF SHAKESPEARE. Sir, I have been much interested Infe ly in the ingenious ideas contained in the letters which you have published cotermn. ing the Bacon-Shakespeare controversy.

Personally, I should never have dream" el of entering into the arena of such ự discussion were it not that I notice your correspondents, in searching for objective evidence, seem to forget the more eu jective one of method.

Were I to say that Shakespeare had not written the plays attributed to him, it would be a rash statement. But were

The method of Shakespeare was essbe- tially that of the artist, whereas the method in all Bucco's English writing is forent. that of a scholar. The two are quite dif.

Whoever wrete Shakespeare's

plays was a showman. This is evident la the dramatic texture of the plays and in the way in whiels song and dance are introduced whenever there is a danger of the dramatic interest flagging.

The plays are full of selclastic in- ! necuracies, which I cannot believe any scholar would have allowed to be pub. tibed. At the same, time, they are full of the method of the artist-clear mental visualisation, impatience of detail in the | heat of creations and unerring wethetle

sense.

Shakespeare might have written Bacon's Essays, but no mere scholar equld ever have written A Midsummer Night's Dream," with all its wonderful weaving of fancy in dreamland.

If we wish to see the way the schoes tic mind has tortured the fancies of Shakespeare, we have only to compare na annotated modern edition of the

dramatist's works with the First Folic cr the Quartos.

I might have been inclined to think at Burbage had written the plays, be being a follow-actor of Shakespeare's, but that I have not had time to search for the initial letter of that actor's name among the bonnets of your correspon dents, and so form a foundation for 5

Nervous Exhaustion, Neuralgia,

Sleeplessness

The fact that Mrs. Taylor did not give up her work, and did not go for a change, is clear proof Phosferine prevented the nervous breakdown which her doctor sail was certain unless she gave up her duties,.„„Mrs. Taylor is not the sort who gives up easily, although she was worn to a standstill with neurasthenia and sleeplessness, and realising that neither change nor gest was possible; she concluded the only certain way to keep going was to supplement ber vitality with Phosferine. The actual benefit Mrs. Taylor experienced within a few hours exceeded even the relief, she knew would result from Phosferine, every nerve centre in her sistem began to resicine. its activity, thus promoting her recovery with daily increasing rapidity. Now that all traces of nervous disorders are expelled, and she sleeps sounder and eats better than ever, Mrs. Taylor urges other exhausted workers not to gis up, but employ 'bosferine to generate a new supply of nerve force and feel for themselves how capable, vivacious, and happy- natured this new energy makes everyone,

Completely done with.

Mrs. K. E. Taylor, 369. Goldhawk Road, Chiswick, writes: The benefit I have received from Phosferine is almost incredible. I had been suffering for months from Neurasthenia, everything was a burden to me, bead pains and body pains were constant, I could not eat, neither could sleep I felt utterly ill and wearied out, and after struggling on for some time. I was told by my doctor there was nothing for it but to give up my situation or to go away for a change. For many reasons, either would have been my last wish. I remembered Phosferine had done me sa awurk good 14 years ago in a case of neuralgia and weakness following maternity, and so I started your remedy again. I consider it has again worked iniracles for me. I can eat and sleep well, and am able to perform my duties, which comprise not only household affairs, but brain work, with ease and pleasure."April 24, 1912.
