Saigon/Japan:-We understand that the freight offered on cur market st cents hut refused by local owners, whe demanded at least 40 cents, has been taken by Japanese tonnage at 30 cents per picul. Japan has been buying very heavily of late, especially in Saigon, and it is said that the mills there cannot meet the demand. Also from here large abip- ments of rien have been made to Japan, and regular liners not proving suficient for the rush, extrs boats had to be put on the berth. There is a big shortage in the Japan crop, due to the late rains and foods.
