The underlying principle of the society is to find employment for applimits rather than to give monetary aid, but, nevertheless, in this Colony mere frequently than not employement mannot be found, however deserving the case, and It becomes necessary that board and lodg ing should be provided for wesks at a time, and that passage to Englandy Australia and elsewhere should be provided. There are not a few people who arrive in this Colony with a certain amount of money in hard; they are optimistic and believe that they will find work; perhaps they do for a space, but the time unhappily comes when many of them find themselves with their means oxbraste f, and there is nowhere for them to go to seek relief ax- cept this society.
