“TERROR AMONG THE GRAM Yangtze, L. S'pore, O. Juna de
PHONE 3."
The new Copyright Bill has spread terror among the gramophones. Hitherto to the maunfacturer of gramaphone and pianos records have been parasitted to publish musical compositions in roourd form with out regard to the rights of the composer. The new Bill will no longer permit them to
STERSATIONAL BANKING do so; and chitously tau new Bill is right.
COR
The composer is badly hit by the pianola. Many people who once bought printed copies of his works, and played them on the piano, now buy pispelas recorde, on which no myelty is paid. A pianola rocuri. is as much a copy of a musician's work ma is the printed composition. But the gramophone companies should be com- ponsated under the Bill for the commercia; loss it will bring upon them. They have buen run on the assumption that the compositions were free, and interista have been built up ou that assumption. Com peusation is due, and it should be paid by the State, which has been the real offender in not regulating this industry before. Saturday Review.
