The people of the champagne district. wish to keep for their wine the sole use of the word champagne. That is, they maiob that no wine grown outside their district, whatever ita quality, shall be known sa champagne, If it is not produced in the Department of the Marine or in the district of Chateau-Thierry and Scissos. Now, Aube, where the people are rioting, is just outside the champagne district, and though some of the wine produced in it is superior to that made from grapes grown in the champagne district, yet the right to use the word champagne in refused. The grapes are the same, the process of manufacture is the same, the soil is of the same class, and the wine is frequently better, yet it must be called by some other game.
