Admiralty's Intention to Replace the Bedford,
The Naval and fitary Record has the following:It is reported that the armoured cruiser Defence is shortly to be despatched to the Far East. The rainforcement to our feet in those waters would be welcome, especially as the Newcastle is no eficient substitute for the wreckel Bedford, which she was satt to replace: Tta departure of the Defence, however, would have saather effect it would leave the First Division of the Home fleet composed entirely of hips of the Dreadnought type. It was made clear in the First Lord's state- mest that on commissioning for service as the fagip of the new Commander-in- Chief the Septano is to replace the Agamemnon in the battle squadron. 'It was at first thought that the latter vessel would be retained in the squadron for some time to take the place of the Dreadnought, Eut as this ship is not to undergo such complete refit is was at first decided upca, the retention of the Agamemnon will not be necessary for long. Whea these changes have taken place the Armoured-ship squadrons of the First Division will consist of twelve ships of the Dreadnought type-eight battle- ships and four cruisers-with an aggre gate arminient of 112 12-inch gros. The detachment of the Defence from the Fir Cruiser aquadron could hardly be re graded as a weakening of that force. Her
