In the course of his report upon the trade of Canton for 1909 Mr Pratt, the British Prn.Consul, makes wame interesting com- ments on the cement industry, i-which the Green Island product comes out very favourably. The native articles are from Tungku. Green Island and Haiphong supplied the bulk of the foreign cement, a considerablo part of the iniport this year and last being used in the waterworks installation. A new cament factory at Huang Shih Kang, 30 miles down river, under Government auspices and equipped with European machinery was ported to start turning cut 360 canka a day from May, 1910.
