A SHOCKING OCCURRENCE.
It is the custom in Canton in the seventh Chinese month for people, especially women and maidens, to proceed to the White Cloud Hills, They do not go specially to escape the heat of the plain,"bat in order to worship one of their popular patron saints, whose name is Cheung Sin, or the Fairy Cheung. The women go in crowds as they think there is safety in numbers. On the afnotoenth of the month a party woro proceeding thither, not domaing of trouble. Suddenly they were pounent upon by six rien, robbers, who barred the way, and robbed the women of all the property they had on their persons. It is said that the robbers even took the women's clothes
