The news of the death of the Inte King Edward VII will be receivel with sincere sorrow in every corner of the civilized world. The death of no other-living man would have stirred the sympathies of sc many or called forth so many expressions of regret. Nor is this altogether due to the fact that "the Sun never sets on the ompire that he left or because wherever! industry and civilization have penetrated thero will be found an Englishmana, bar also because the personality of the dead monarch made a special appeal to men- the world over of every nationality.
The Cublerew-american extends con dolence to the British subjects in the Philippine Islands for the loss of a monarch, who. since the scepter came into his hand, had shown him every inch a king and something more, a royal diplomat and a wari among men. His passing is a distinct loss to the nation and every subject who bore his allegiance.
As we have intimated, the death of Ed. ward VII will not be deplored heenuse the work or his subjects fear rapalitie cataclysm will follow his removal from the British showne. The lata king, in the little more than nine years of his roign, displayed statesmanship of the Best order on more than one occasion and a diplomacy equnted by few monarchs. There is no roum here to review the events of his reig or to attempt an estimate of his official acts in connection with important national messurga. However, it may be safely said
