#LADIES' DAY."

With "Ladies' Day" the Faces proper ended for another year at the Happy Valley Race Course to-day. Once again the wea- ther conditions were all that could be desired, the atmosphere, notwithstanding the

mist, being unusually mild for the time of the year. It was, in fact, so warm that summer attire could be TOD with the greatest comfort. It was not surprising, therefers, that the fair sex, wko naturally attended in large numbers, wore their lightest facry They crowded the stands and enclosure and again gavo a wealth of variety in eclour and design to the scene.

The racing was keen all through the day, very fast turf making splendid times possi- bio. As usual, there was a lot of betting done, crawda thronging the pari-mutuel booths. The recovery of the Rosea yoster: day after a bad show on the opacing day divided opinion on the merits of the Buzey and Marshall stables, both Jeanstone and Barkhill having plenty of backors.
