Eorsanan, December $34 „TEN GENERAL' BLECTION. The Unionists are to contesh every seat in Scotland, candidatos pressing forward if not "to share the triumpò," at least to *hahara the galo, ": For mos the Unionista are of the same complexion sa their brethren South of the Tweed. Thoy,wil3 fight on the same political platform. Loo! questions will not intrude. And ayop the Free Food trouble will not affect them for the time being. All Unionists, whether they follow Lord Balfour of Burleigh or Me
Balfour of Whittinghame, will vote on the
same ticket..
There are 151 candidatas for the 79 seats divided as follows,-Unionish,, 7o; Radical | 76; Labour, 11: and Prohibitionist, 1
The Radicala aro, not expected to soutesy | the Scottish Universities; the two seats aro, indeed, unassailable. Edinburgh and St. Andrews Universities will sand to West- minster Sir Robert Finlay, a Libera}] Unionist, who was Solicitor-General for England from 1896 to 1900.
GIFTE BY À DUNOKŽ MANUFACTURER.. Mr J, K. Caird, the proprietor of Ashton Worker, Dundee, has made two donations ät £10,000, which have craited much interest and not a little surprise. A short time ago, the managers of the Sidlaw Sanatorium announced that, in couse- quence of financial difficulties, they must close the institution. Mr Caird has come to their aid with a sum of £10,000 on condition that the Sanatorium is hardad over to the Royal Infirmary Board, the
idos being that the Sanatorium shall be
utilised' principally for the treatment of
· children suffering from tubercular diseasè
No. better Christmas gift could have been
made, and it has been accepted with gratitude by the community. The donation of the other £10,000, however, has revealed a side of Mr Caird's character of which no
one had any auspicion. He has sönt a oheque for this amount to Mr Winston Churchill, the money to be devoted to the furtherance of the Free Trade propaganda throughout the country. Accompanying the cheque is a letter from Mr Caird, in which he expresses his admiration for the speeches of the member for Dundes on
Tariff questions. Until now Mr Caird fas not been actively identified with sur politi cal movement, although it is stated that some years ago he was sounded as to be coming Parliamentary candidate for Dun- dee. In commercial circles in Dundee, the general opinion is expressed that while The REGISTER of SHARES of the Mir Caird's cheque to Mr Churchill means Company will be CLOSED from WEDNES.
