German Ship's Omoer Sentenced to Imprisonment.
One of the most extraordinary cases which have come before the public in Shanghai, says thê Shanghai "Miercury, was the subject of a criminal trial in the German Consular Court when an officer of the mercantile marino wae sentenced to two years' imprisonment for a series of mob bezien. The bocused, was Herman Witzler second officer of the steamer foilce, and related in Court the evidenos showed that he had practised thieving in the most systematic manner for the last year. Dr Ney and four Assessors heard the case.
.......It was shown that the accused, who-was arrested on November 1st, had on thres ccasions opened the German mail-bags which the Meil e was carrying between Shanghai and Hankow. As second officer
