On the occasion of the refiroment of Li Ta-shun, the director of the Northern part of the Tientsin-Pukow Railway, it was neserted that he had endeavoured to cause the Railway Station a Tintain to be constructed in the neighbourhood of the German settlement and that he had received large sums of moneyksa bribe for that purpose from the Deutsch-Asiatische Bank connected with that company.
We have been naked to state that, slthough it was's questiva, at the beginning of the negotiations, of constructing the atation partly on German, partly 'bo Eng- lish territory, nevertheless, during the course of tho" whole negotiation, which were conducted with full publicity, neither From the German not from the English side, were offers or promises of any Hind made to the Chinese negotiators nor to any other Chinese officials.
